Arrrgggghhhh! NHS direct questions

Called NHS direct as DS2 is quite ill. They really weren't helpful at all. They have their specific questions, and no variation of either "yes" or "no" is accepted at all. Some questions about DS2's pain reactions and coherency and such, as well as things like "does he have a headache" "does he have joint pain" were a "I honestly don't know." Confused He doesn't generally offer the information if he hurts anywhere specific, and if you ask, he will either completely deny it because he is worried he might have to take medicine (which he hates and fights) or will say yes because he thinks you want him to say yes. sigh.

When I told her that I didn't know, she just kept asking the question. Finally she said "well, I'd think you'd know if something was REALLY wrong with him." Angry Well, that would be why I called......

I finally gave up. I'll just watch him closely and take him in to A&E if needed. He saw the nurse practitioner in the surgery earlier today, but he's gotten slightly worse, and they rather poo poo'd it as "I'm sure it's just a fever, maybe a virus...." and bumped up his asthma meds. Hmm

How is it going, Triggles. Is he any better this morning? I hate it when they leave the medication decisions to you, we're not medical professionals, FGS. Keep us updated when you get a chance.

Yes, he's doing better today. Still feverish and coughing, so we're dealing with that (ventolin, nurofen, calpol) but much more alert now this afternoon. Thank you. He's also starting to eat and drink again, thank goodness.

Glad to hear he's feeling a little better today Triggles. Its always such a relief when they starting eating and drinking as well.

Hope he's better really soon. Smile

That's good news. He might get a high temp again this evening, it does seem to go in cycles, sometimes.

Triggles · 09/04/2011 19:07

Just had to give him his emergency inhaler again. But settled down again and up in his bed for now. He refuses to take liquid meds (or pills or such), but since calpol is strawberry flavoured, he gets it in a very small cup with strawberry milk. Grin And nurofen is orange flavoured, so he gets a very small cup of orange juice during the day too. At least we know he's staying hydrated as well. Smile And he had six bites of supper (mince, beans and rice) as the house rule is six bites of supper in order to have laptop time before bed. LOL God, we sound so odd, don't we? Blush

Doesn't sound odd to me! Mind you......

LOL. All these little quirks and games to get them to eat and such. Our very own little madhouse. Grin

Hi Triggles, how is your DS today? Just saw you on someone else's thread and didn't want to hijack. Sculpture trail in F of D is lovely, cafe and picnic area, playground, great walk with various shortcuts to wimp out on and lots of it pushchair friendly if feeling strong on the hills. It's just past Speech House near Cinderford at Beechenhurst Lodge. £3.50 parking and £1.25 for map of trail.

Oh, thank you for the info - it does sound nice! I'll look into it!

DS is much much better today. He was well enough to take swimming even, which was nice. Although he was struggling tonight with his asthma a bit, but better now and sleeping well. THank you for asking. Smile

I'm so glad it wasn't meningitis! :) I don't think he would have got better if it was - you were so right to keep a close eye on him.

How is he today?

Triggles · 11/04/2011 12:19

He's completely himself again. Still a few bouts of coughing, but he's currently sitting next to me, singing and eating an egg mayo sandwich. So much much better! Thank you!
