DLA question

Got my DLA through today. We get higher rate carers allowance and higher rate mobility allowance for DS (ASD) we also got a form through for free car tax?? I wasn't aware of this. Anyway I have just bought my tax and it's good till next April. So do I wait till next april and then renew using this form or do I apply now and get a refund on my old one?

I'm confused.

You apply for the fre one and get a refund on the one you've bought. They'll only refun full months though.

Get a refund! You won't get the whole lot back but it'll be worth it.

We got DLA award today too. DS has been given middle rate care, he's too young for mobility. My question is...If I apply for Carer's Allowance does this effect his DLA? Thanks girls

No, you get Carer's allowance because he gets at least middle rate DLA. DLA is for him, CA is for you. You have to be earning less than £95 (I think) per week. Get your application in ASAP!

Thanks Ellen, I've handed my notice in at work so will be def be entitled. Will claim for a few months while I'm not working. Need a bit of time off to wrap my head around his dx.
