Is there no Friday night thread?

I was going to go on it for the first time to have a wee moan, I mean I'm going to do the moan anyway, but I thought there'd be a nice thread all there already...

I had an argument with someone today, a friend, not a close one, at a bloody craft class of all places, lol

Frankie Boyle came up in conversation, I said that I actually liked him in Mock the Week, but since that sketch show and the jordan/harvey 'joke' I wouldn't watch him and I definitely wouldn't give him money to see him perform...

She argued that we have free speech and can turn over, I said no, if that had been about something else it wouldn't have been allowed on air...

She replied with, wait for it, well people get the mickey taken out of them for having ginger hair or glasses and besides he makes jokes about paedophiles and she has children and doesn't find them offensive - disability shouldn't be something that people aren't allowed to mock

I stopped arguing back when she said it was satire and I shouted at her to look up the definition of satire because that wasn't satire (it isn't btw, lol) and realized I was seconds away from full on losing my temper with her

I came home pretty pissed off and then my DD (10) came home from school and said that some boys from DS's (14 and has AS) school had called him a mongo to her on the way home (she was walking down the same hill they walk up)

I'm now very very pissed off, firstly I had to explain to my 10 yr old what mongo means and secondly there's chuff all I can do about it as she doesn't know who they are and I'm now completely irrationally even angrier with my 'friend' because in my head it's attitudes like hers that make the second incident more likely.

I know she not directly responsible and I know she soooo wouldn't call DS that or harass DD on the way home from school but I'm still going Sad AngrySad Angry

anyone feel like cheering me up a bit?

Smile

I had a wee book full of jokes like that, I think the kids hid it so I'd stop telling them, lol

Sorry tabulah, we were all having Brew with Starlight instead and I'd gone to bed by 11.00pm.

I've gone right off Frankie Boyle too, ever since that other incident when he made unpleasant references to children with Downs and when a mother of a child with Downs heckled him about it he was really rude. Then the Harvey joke on top of that. Sorry, but Jordan is fair game in my opinion but not Harvey. He's an extremely unpleasant man who unfortunately can make people laugh. But not me anymore. But I am sensitive to disability jokes and probably laughed along with everyone else to some of his other near the knuckle stuff.

Not done as good a job as Star cheering you up, but I'd just agree to disagree with your friend. She's probably gone home and thought about it and is feeling a bit sorry but doesn't know how to say it. Give her the benefit of the doubt, then you can be on that moral high ground, all forgiving and forgetting. Maybe?

I fell asleep long before then ellenjane Grin

tabulahrasa, I can see why you got so cross. It's one thing making jokes about people that can answer back for themselves and give as good as they get. BUT it's completely different making jokes about people that may not understand the joke in the first place or have the voice or ability to answer back.

star, that made me chuckle, I will use it to make the dcs groan later Grin
