We took our ds to see a psychologist today, basically looking for help about his anger issues(expecially at school). What a waste of time!!! I have a very challenging child, according to the psychologist! Tell me something i didnt know. Not one little iota of advice or help! Can anyone adviced me, where do we go from here??? All we want is a bit of knowledge how to deal with our ds's anger meltdowns!!!!!

Sorry to hear the session wasn't helpful. What kind of psychologist was it - an educational psychologist or clinical psychologist? Was it via CAMHS? Does your DS have a diagnosis?

Oh no not you as well. Off to GP in morning to ask advice about options for ds who is very angry and frustrated and can't come to terms with his disabilities. Have been advised to do Pecams. However found out that they are teachers, OT's etc. with what sounds like mickey mouse councelling qualifications. At Cams level you see clinical psychs. psychiatrists etc. but don't want to have to go through Pecams first, which is screeening. At Cams level parents are involved and get help with strategies. THis is what I want.
I was told once that clinical psychologists were the rolls royce, when compared to councellors, sounds like your rolls royce has quite a bit of rust.
You could try some anger management books, if your ds has /is on the Autistic spectrum don't they have societies with Outreach workers? You could go back to person who referred you and ask for second opinion/appointment explaining you didn't get anything out of your appointment. Good Luck.

It was a clinical psychologist that we saw and believe me this one wasnt just rusty there were big holes there aswell! Never been to cams and dont really know what that is never mind pecams??? We are dealing with an 11yr old with Aspergers who is 5'7 already and is expected to reach 6'6 ish acording to Dr's. His anger is surfacing mainly at school and he moves to Secondary in September although we dont know which one yet as we are having to go to tribunal. We are just hoping that if we get him into a school that can cope and has more understanding of AS (the present school is useless) then the anger issues will become less and less.

showers what county do you live in? i live in staffs and have been attending a course with my dd for asp and asd. this has helped loads, it only lasts 6 weeks and can refer yourself. they had to cancel sessions for the younger ones as only 1 person signed up. i was wondering if there is something like this running in your area.

Yes, the NAS courses are normally far better than anything you'll get out of a clinical psychologist......

I went on a Help2 NAS course called something like 'ASD and Anger'. It didn't help a lot - but certainly more than the clinical psychologist we saw.
