Pychologist a bit rubbish!

Dd2 19 months had her 1st pyschologist app yesterday and don't know what I expected really but didn't seem to get much out of it! She let me reel off my list of concerns then asked lots of questions particularly about when dd was very young about her time in neonatal, breastfeeding, weaning etc etc I asked where she thought dd was at developmentally and she said movement wise, pointing etc about 18 months which is good. Then I asked about dd speech as dd has 6 words but not consistent and has lost some words and she seemed very vague and said " a 2 yr old cAn have as few as 4 words and as many as 400", but didn't answer me directly. She said dd very overactive and once again "has lots of sensory issues". I seem to get nowhere fast with profs from CDC. We have another 2 apps with pyschologist in may where she wants to go into more details about her early babyhood?? Does anyone know why they need to know all this and what exactly they can do with baby's so young. Just feeling a little despondent.

I think they want to get to know as much about the child as possible and there may be some clues - after all it isn't as if it was years ago iyswim. I still get asked questions about ds's early childhood and even my pregnancy (that annoys me, cos I bet they wouldn't ask that if it was dh who took him rather than me) and he is 12! I think the art is to develop a non-confrontational way of just asking them to explain why they think something is relevant and keep asking it if they don't tell you.

Hopefully the EP will be a bit more helpful when you see her again.
