Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

Can't decide if I'm bloody angry or bloody upset. Both I think.

Just picked DD2 up from school - can't decide if I'm bloody upset or fucking angry.

The Senco (who is brilliant) wanted to forewarn me that there's a rumour circulating among some parents that DD2 is so dangerous when she throws a tantrum that the classroom has to be evacuated for the other children's safety.

It's a load of bollocks, she does throw tantrums but is so feeble that the only thing at risk of getting hurt is herself or the carpet. If she does kick off, it's her that's removed from the classroom and only so the lesson or activity isn't disrupted whilst she calms down.

I'm so hurt, angry, upset and sad. Why do some parents gossip and whisper about things that aren't even true? Apparently the children have never been evacuated from a classroom for anything like that, let alone because of DD2.

It seems like they blame the "odd kid" for everything, and if there's nothing to bitch about they'll make it up anyway.

I'm Angry on your behalf.

Do you have a friend or two who can make a point of telling everyone the truth of the matter to squash the rumour? I know you shouldn't have to but needs must.

I'm a bit surprised that the SENCo hasn't offered a solution herself. She could easily send a letter to parents stating that the children have never been removed from the room for their own safety on any occasion and asking that if anyone has any concerns they should be addressed to her. She need do nothing which jeopardises confidentiality.

But to put this rumour to bed surely the parents only have to ask their own children? As for the school putting out a letter, I think they would be doing this every week for various things if our own playground is anything to go by! Hope you get it sorted.

TheNinjaGooseIsOnAMission · 22/03/2011 16:13

that's awful sidge! I too would have hoped the senco had something planned to sort it out, even if it's just a few words to the class about being truthfull. I also think there's a group of parents like that at most schools, really best off avoided for their tendancy to make themselves look daft. Don't let them get to you Brew

IndigoBell · 22/03/2011 16:37

I would ignore it totally. You don't know anything about this 'rumour'.

Was it 1 parent who asked the SENCO something in a round about way?

It's not likely to be most of the parents - 'cause they'll ask their DCs and they'll say no.

Sidge · 22/03/2011 17:14

I will ignore it. I don't know who approached the Senco, but apparently one parent approached her to express her concern (which I can understand, no-one wants their child to be at risk of harm when they go to school) and said some parents were saying that my DD2 was causing the class to be evacuated.

The Senco is great and apparently she told the parent who came to her that it was totally untrue, that the children are in no way at any risk from DD2s behaviour and that's not how a situation like that would be managed anyway.

How the 'rumour' started I don't know, the Senco says that the children have never been evacuated from the classroom for any reason let alone because of my DD so I don't know if it's a child's comment that has been misunderstood or twisted.

I know these things happen, I've calmed down now but I was upset and angry. I just get tired of it, having a child with SN is hard enough without becoming the butt of the playground gossip.

Arrghh - yes, I'd be upset too

The only thing that i can think of to console you is that next week, these air-heads will be picking on a new target, and this gossip - fest will have died down.
Some people really do have nothing better to do with their time and should almost be pitied for their lack of abilities to sort fact from fiction. Sad
