Equasym XL and sore ears/increased sensitivity to sound

My DS2 started an increased dose of Equasym XL of 20 mg last week. Since then he has been holding his ear off and on and saying it is sore - we didn't give him any meds over a long weekend there when he wasn't at school and no complaints about his ears. Just wondering if it is related to the meds and if anyone else has found this. His S&L is limited so it is hard to know what is going on but he does say his ear is "sore". He wouldn't wear his ear defenders when I suggested this. Many thanks

Hi. My Ds has been on Equasysm XL 20mg since August 2008. He has always had sensitive hearing and it seemed to worsen slightly around that time. I don?t think I put it down to his ears getting extra sore because of the medication but rather that he seemed to anticipate loud noises and other fearful situations more. For example when going on a plane he would get anxious that the plane was going to be loud and would want his defenders in advance. I know that anxiety can be a side effect of equasym but I?m not sure if it wasn?t just him getting a bit more mature and anticipating events more. When looking back he did go through a bit of a bad phase around the time he started the medication and I can think of 3 or 4 incidents over a few months where he found certain incidents distressing. He is better than he was then but some loud noises are still an issue. My gut feeling is that the medication didn?t directly cause his ears to become sorer or for the noises to actually feel louder to him. Other symptoms included a loss of appetite for a short period of time but that only last a month or so
