Hi all,

Just wondering if anybody on here has a child with heart conditions & if u get DLA and at whaqt rate?

My son is nearly 3 with severe heart defects that he will have pallative surgery for life ( his heart has a single ventricle so non fixable ) & then maybe a transplant .

H ehas had high rate DLA since birth as he has also been tube fed by his gastrostamy but he is now being weaned off that so im wondering if this will affect his DLA entitlement?

I applied for his renewal 9 weeks ago & am still waiting a decision!
Getting quite concerned now tbh!
Also applied for mobility so wondering if this could be delaying it??

Thanks
Claire

Hi Claire,
maybe the DLA is delayed somehow. I was told by welfare benefits that I was writing too much in the forms as they see he has a heart condition and it's an automatic award for both care and mobility.
Phone up and find out what is going on x

hi the moblity will be from the age of3 and only if he qualifys for teh high rate maybe they are looking at this

Hi thanks to u both.

I did phone them fri as they said to phone if I hadnt heard anything within 8 weeks and its now been 9. They just said that its still with the decision makers and that I should wait another 4 weeks before phoning again!

He is 3 in May & this is when his current award runs out & the new claim will be starting so he will be at the age for mobility.

Just cant believe its taking so long, only waited 3 weeks the first time & 4 weeks for his last renewal Hmm
