Implementing a statement

DS (8 and AS) had his statement issued at the end of Jan.

His TA was recruited in Feb and started last week.

One of the requirements of his statement is for a SALT programme to be drawn up by a SALT which would include 6 visits a year and twice weekly paired/group work (again as advised by a SALT).

I've chased SALT twice and have just been told they can't come in to see him until May!

He has just started returning to school after three months of flexi-schooling (mornings only) as he was finding it difficult to cope. He has lashed out at break/lunch twice over the last two days because of problems with play.

I'm getting angry about this lack of support. I have writtne to the LA to remind tthem that it is their responsibility to implement the statement. What else can I do?

We are appealing the statement as it is as their lousy 6 visits a year will achieve bugger all but he's not even getting these at present

Contact the LA again via a formal and trackable complaint, and insist that they provide a therapist in accordance with the statement, privately if necessary. If they still refuse and/or do not respond to the formal complaint contact the local government ombudsman.

Agree with beautiful - I had the same problem asked for advice on here (thanks Agnesdi) and basically I told the LA to treat my complaint as a formal complaint and I also advised them that I was going to contact the local government ombudsman. Within days a SLT had been found for my daughter. If the SALT is in part 3 of your statement the LA have a legal obligation to provide it.

Thanks. I wrote to them today and they say they have contacted all professionals involved immediately.

I will ask that this be logged as a formal complaint.
