Help - annual review

I don't want to go into too much detail lest I should ID myself in RL.

How long should parent's get notice of an Annual Review for a statemented kid?

I ought to know so I thought I'd pick your brains. I think DS' school has royally screwed up the admin.

we usually get about a months notice I think. We're often given a rough idea of when the next review will be at the annual review. You should have copies of all the reports at least 2 weeks in advance and be asked to contribute your views.

i usually get about 1 month notice of review, hth.

have checked the sencop as have an annual review today myself and can't find a reference as to when you should be informed, just that all reports should be circulated at least 2 weeks in advance. The ht should have a list of dcs requiring a review and this should be looked at at the start of each term and the dates should be arranged from there.

No reports circulated so far. Advised of time of meeting via text last night. Review next week.

you can refuse to accept any reports that are not given to you 14 days before annual review

I would complain that the school have not followed sencop by not giving you the opportunity to complete a report and have it shared amongst all involved with your child(even if not attending annual review)and would request a new date for annual review and advise them to follow procedures.

unless you are desperately in need of this annual review to happen now then I'd be tempted to do as chatee says and tell them you want to postpone the review until you've received all the reports and had your 2 weeks thinking time that the sencop says you should have. If you let them start messing about like this now, when you come up against something really important (not that this isn't but yswim) then they will think they can carry on messing you around. And of course put your objections about this in writing to the ht.

I've had around 2-3 weeks notice of this.

As I write the things: The parents should get notification and all the paperwork at least two weeks before the date. I try to notify parents before then. We do cock up on the paperwork a tiny bit because sometimes we have to do the child input one after the main report goes out but as most of our parents can't even be bothered to fill in the parent feedback form and bring it to the meeting it's not a biggie. You'd be amazed at the number of parents who forget and don't turn up as well.

It can be really tricky doing the paper work especially in a large secondary when you are waiting for any feedback from subject teachers so that you can give a full picture. It then has to go in the head's intray and wait to be signed. This has to be factored in with school holidays, etc. Is it possible that it is a new SENCO or someone who has been off sick or does three or four other jobs (this sometimes happens in primary and SENCO is just another thing foisted on someone else) so they haven't done it.

No. The Head is the SENCO. It's a primary school of 40 kids. There's 2 statemented kids in the entire school.

I know she's the SENCO by default but it doesn't mean she should be crap at it. I know how busy schools are as I'm a teacher too but really, it takes the biscuit.
