Weighted Belts

I have just got a weighted belt for DS (6) to wear-he has sensory seeking behaviour (constant need to hug), poor proprioception/balance etc as part of ASD and dyspraxic profile.

I just have a couple of queries re the belt if anyone has used them before...
I used the weight guide and waist size guide when buying it and it came out with DS needing a 3lb belt. When it arrived today, this seems quite heavy for a little boy to carry round his middle.

Also not sure how tight it should be-DS said "its great mum" then removed it in 3 secs flat but difficult to get out of him why he took it off.

I dont want him to feel uncomfortable with it but its so hard to judge as DS a people pleasing little soul and will often just say what you want to hear!

Anyone else had success??

I'd say it's prob the right weight . Dd is 19 months and was given weighted stuff by the OT including a neck weight and I was surprised how heavy it was by they said it was correct weight and she loved it and crawled round with it on. Could it be itching him perhaps? I have a weight belt that I lie on dds lap when she is siting still - on the rare occasions! And also lay it over her legs when she sleeping

Thanks Chundle-did you put the vests etc direcly on her skin-I put it over his teeshirt so I dont think itching is the problem...will persevere over the weekend and maybe try the smaller size. It says the big one is suitable for adolescents and there seems a massive difference between a 6 and 16 year old to me!!

Where did you get it from? DS1 (ASD/Dyspraxia) is going up to secondary school in September and I am worrying that he'll have trouble carting his weighted lap blanket around (and look like a target for bullies), do you think that a belt like this would work in the same way?

Belt was given to me by someone I met on a message board. You can buy them on the Internet. I put it over her clothes as well just wondered if he was extra sensitive maybe it irritAteD him
