Ds had one of these new health reviews for people with learning difficulties today.

Nothing big, just standard questions and basic medical examination but the last question the dr had to circle the level of learning disability - mild, moderate, severe or profound and he circled severe.

Just feel a bit crap tonight about it, I always feel he just has a few minor problems, that others can't really notice. Things like this always make me Sad

That's it really. Just need a bit of hand-holding tonight I guess.

Sad even when you know it's so hard to see it in writing isn't it. Your ds is still your gorgeous ds whatever some piece of paper says Smile Wine

So sorry. Anything in black and white seems much worse somehow. Hopefully it should help to make sure your DS gets the provision he needs. He hasn't changed, as bigcar says, he's still your lovely boy. Smile

Thanks, you're right, it's seeing it on paper that makes it worse.

I often think (hope) that at his various appointments I'm going to be told to go away as Ds is fine so these things always get to me. I should be a bit more realistic I suppose then it wouldn't take me by surprise!

Thing is I just see Ds as Ds and it makes me sad that others see him as 'someone with sn'. Is that a normal feeling or should I think differently about him to grow that rhino skin?

I think we get used to how our DCs are; -to us they are just who they are with all their quirks(the good as well as the bad) and difficulties.Just hold on to the fact that the important thing is how YOU see him that counts.

Just remember the worse things look on paper the more support you could get. You know him better than any one, does what is on paper make any difference?
