Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

Does anyone have tips for a Statementing first "interview"?

Hi,

My friend has just rung me to ask if I have any top tips for her. I don't, but I'm hoping you ladies might.

Her son has a very complex condition (same one as my son, but he is far worse in terms of neurological damage). He has been unable to attend school since last October. He was moved to private education a couple of years ago as she felt his needs could be met better there, but that has not been the case as he had deteriorated massively and she is now looking to get him back into mainstream education with a statement.

The person from the LEA is going to their house tomorrow morning, so I would appreciate any advice I can pass on to her as to appropriate questions/whatevers. Both of us are in the dark on this.

Any help appreciated! Thank you Smile

not been in quite the same Boat but been through a lot with statementing and DX ect as with anything to do with the LEA you do have to tread carefully and be thorough i would get everything out to do with health/DX since a baby and i would get out all reports from medical and profeshionals and all his reports from the last school/ home tutor i would write a list of provision they gave him or didnt as the case may be and anything basically at all you think is relevent, make notes while shes there as you may need to refer back to themyou will probably need to give reasons why you left and went private and obviously explain why you think what they have been doings not helping in fact has made DS worse as deteriorating, if after shes left your worried how it went give her a call back late afternoon especially if you want any info repeated or you have remembered something ect id also if after that your worried ring paret partnership as if you need any further meetings ie with multi agencies you might like to have someone in your corner who knows how these things go ive used them and my lady where i live from PP is fantastic she knows everything they are up to and why and they dont ignore her and her requests on my DS behalf HTH n good luck
