Squint surgery!

Hi All

DD has just turned 3 and has GDD, low tone, speach delay ext. She has had bilateral squints since 3 months old and had surgery last monday on one eye only. The surgeon came out after op and said all went well, and that the eyes should look much straighter by the morning, we were told that in doing one eye the other should follow and also become straight.

However we are now a week on and although the eye that they operated on looks better the other eye is still turning in, and she now appears to have a droopey eye lid on the eye that was operated on. If anything it looks worse not better, as the eyes now look different sizes. Last night i noticed the eye that was operated on also turning in. We dont see the surgeon for another 2 weeks can anyone share experiences of Squint surgery with me??

Thanks C xx

DD had squint but wouldn't co operate for patches or surgery, wore glasses til she was about 8(long sighted) and now doesnt. the squint is mostly gone( comes back sometimes when she's concentrating on something close up) and her vision is apparently fine.
(She's also asd and learning disabilities, now 13yrs)
Docs said they can get in to the habit of squinting and eventually grow out of it. Also that the weird visual effects, seeing double etc, might be quite fun, and a child with LD wouldnt self regulate(its a muscle control thing) it as quickly as an NT might.
Its just that i never thought the squint would go but it did, so I hoping this might give you some hope regardless of the surgery success.
Also its early days, the doc doesnt want you back for 2 weeks maybe thats how long it takes to settle?
HTH- its not quite what you asked for but thought I'd 'share' anyway..Smile

Thanks Alys, interesting about them getting into the habit and also about the wierd visual effects, I can quite imagine DD enjoying how the world looked before the op and finding it strange now things look different!

I will just have to wait and see, as with most things!
