Widget or boardmaker???

Hi can anyone advise me as to which one is best to use? Both are quite alot of money, £93 for Widget and £209 for boardmaker. Unsure as to what one i should invest in. A friend says Widget and Makaton teachers say Boardmaker confused!!!!! I would like to invest in one for my autistic son as he uses PECs at home and school, and i will need acess to symbols full time. Be grateful if anyone has any advice to help me make a choice for long term investment in either of the above!!

Most schools I know use widget for PECS symbols, visual timetables, to 'translate' instructions and to label equipment. What do they use at your DS's school, widget or boardmaker? Best to be consistent if possible.

Also you might get more replies reposting on the Special Needs Children page. It's much busier than here.

Teacher uses all,, but says boardmaker is the best,, but another mum was lucky enough to get widget gifted to her, and she swears by it! Both are alot of money and if im going to invest in one i need to make the right choice. And i know some people favour different ones. My son is using boardmaker in his pecs communication book

To be honest I don't know boardmaker but I'm a TA and I support a child with ASD. My LA sent me on a widget course and it's what's used in Gloucestershire. Will your son continue to use PECS? My DS now age 11 used PECS with widget to start off his communication but he moved on to speech after a year or so. He never liked Makaton, it was too abstract like speech! Good luck with it all.
