Do any of you have any advice to offer please-this is a copy of a telephone conversation on the AS support line.

"....19 yr old son attends a council run scheme during the week, and the council has provided taxis for this, however recently they have told the mother that she will need to pay from the mobility component of DLA to get transport. The mother has worked out that even putting all of the mobility component towards this would leave them short by 2 days per week. She cannot send him on a taxi on his own as he would be too destructive. Similarly she would not be able to drive him as she could not drive and supervise him.

Has anyone heard of anything similar, or is anyone aware of anything that she can do. She has consulted a solicitor who has said there is nothing she can do and citizens advice could not help either".

I have problem with ds age 10. He goes to respite centre 21 nights per year. Normally split fri-mon or mon=fri every 2nd month. i really appreciate the break and it keeps us together as a family. When he goes mon=fri and schools are on transport was provided to take him to and from school each day (approx 50 miles return 2x each day) this is now being cancelled due to cuts. this means i'd need to take him to respite then collect in morning to take to school collect from school and back to respite. Its crazy where is respite in that. Id be stressed ds would be stressed not knowing if coming or going. would need to leave 7am to collect for school then not home until half 6. Whereas it used to be away to school monday never saw him until after school friday. I have written letter to head of social work as each area here have own budget (even if under same council) and this is where the money came from. Other parents here have also written and contacted local mp, this is only recent so awaiting outcome.

This is absolutely disgraceful. Have you tried IPSEA?
