I am worried about my dd.
She cannot pronounce the "sh" and "ch" sounds.
School are not bothered in the slightest, but I am.
Please can someone tell me at what age these sounds should be mastered?
Thank you.

hi i can only go by personal exp some other mums will prob say different , does your DD have any LD orother traits? if not and your still worried id ask for a referal to be sure but its probably nothing to be worried about what age is your DD? heres a link :members.tripod.com/Caroline_Bowen/acquisition.html looks like the sh n ch thing roughly should improve around 4 but theirs no hard and fast rule its just guidelines as in the red book weight and height charts all children vary dont they HTH

Talk to your health gp for a referral to a Speech Therapist, they should at least assess her and give you suitable advice. School will only take direction from a SALT and usually for long term SLT issues. Im not sure how to master the sounds...my friends DS has trouble with pronunciation to do 'S' he was told to practice saying 'TTTTTTTTTTT' as it gets the correct part of his tongue working....try it! :)

Look uot for Working9to5 she usually posts great advice re SALT. HTH.

SALT = Speech And Language Therapist
LD = Learning Difficulties.

Has your DD had her hearing checked recently to make sure she's hearing a d=full range of sound?

Hi - I have this with dd1 who is 5 and I spoke to ds2's SALT who said she wouldn't be concerned unless dd was still having problems when she was 7 - hth
