Hi
We're looking at movig from Australia as the support for Asoergers is so poor here. Our son is in yr3 in mainstream and doing really well. Does anyone have any recommendations for or against any mainstream schools within the UK which can support aspergers. We're coming over later in the year to meet with some possible schools. To date we've identified the following as potentails so any info about these or others would be extremely appreciated: Morrison's Academy, Belmont House School; Hutcheson's Grammar School; Ashford School; Beechwood Sacred Heart School; Bilton Grange; Ewell Castle School; Fulneck School; Polam Hall School; St Christopher School.

Thanks

If hes doing really well then why the need to move? surely uprooting him is much more unsettling.

Support in sencondary school here is non-existant and we have 3 choices as advised by our education department:
1)special school set up for kids with Autism or high needs (there are no schools here specifically for Aspergers) - even the ed dept recognises that this is not right for him.

  1. segregated special needs unit within mainstream - integrated only for maths and english and only educated to yr 10. No options or support for Senior year. Access to a limited curriculum.

  2. Mainstream all the way to yr 12 (UK 6th form) with 20 mins support per day max.

We want him to have access to a full curriculum and to the same educational opportunities as neurotypical child. Our son should be able to make choices in his life, not have his future dictated by a draconian institution who have no idea and no desire to consider the potential of each child - irrespective of their labels.

Yr 3 is a long way off Yr 7. I wouldnt count on him getting more support here, as each child is assessed individually. And with all the current cut backs alot of they support is being taken away. I'd wait to see how that pans out first if hes doing well at moment seems crazy to rock boat.
