SALT and assessments

My DS was dx as being clearly autistic by a developmental Paed a year ago now. We waited until August to be seen by the specialist SALT and she just did a kind of ADOS lite on him and her report was just a stream-of-consciousness description of the session. Nothing analytical. "DS did this and then DS did that" sort of thing. My ten tear old could have written it.

Since then he has been "monitored" ie not seen at all, no direct input until the other week when she saw him at his pre-school before having to write the report for his statement.

I keep reading on here that people know in quantitative terms how their child's language is in terms of expressive and receptive language. From speaking to a couple of other parents it seems that our SALT only gets involved if PECS is needed.

How do people get a decent assessment? Private SALT? Or am I just unlucky?

my sons draft has only just come so will have to make them say in that how much SALT and when ect to quantify it,i dont know about the pecs they used that in my DS MS (very little),but hes going to SS after half term so it will all change as they do a lot more SLT i hear a lots done automatically within lessons as well as having their own SALT on site i think they said two of them and two assistants so im hoping this will really help him, i dont know much about SALT either just had a friend whos son was tongue tied asking me about it

Id email the SALT for written copies of reports and tests. We got a SALT report with our dx, giving details of assessment results and a our SALT was happy to email me copies of her 'observations' in school and IEP targets. However not a lot seems to happen with NHS provision, many do go private. Have you contacted ICan? www.ican.org.uk/ or we emailed a staff member in our local university, DD is now seeing her weekly, did Renfrew Language Scales and TROG test of receptive grammer this morning.
