Draft statement arrives...I know, I'm lucky to even get one...Part3b contains this gem:

DS will need "the use of a sandtimer to help him understand the concept of waiting in a visual sense to ease his anxiety"

This is one of the two concrete suggestions of the Ed Psych...and it never worked and we do something different now anwyay.

But it's all ok because with a sandtimer and a visual timetable, you can virtually cure autism don'cha know?

Love these tales! The statutory sandtimer...I might spray ours with gold and give it to my named person at the LEA as a little token of my appreciation

purplepidjin, I often lurk to get your advice

heeeheee purple, I've got both hats because I've been an autism specialist teacher/manager for 15 years and have recently had ASD dx for 10yo ds1. The boy loves sudoku, despite also being hugely dyslexic - so your theory is spot on. He also says that it takes up all his concentration so he can's worry :)

P.S. We all need a Statutory Sand Timer.

Obviously.

ok it is 11.45 on a Friday night and this "useless pro" is still working on developing programmes and writing reports for some of the lovely ASC children I work with.
Glad to know that my efforts are appreciated. Angry

MrsShrek, that's exactly the reason I do them! That and crochet LOL

Terrificteens - I am sure that the parents of the children you work with appreciate what you are doing for them.

For the record, I was very grateful for the sandtimer strategy 10 months ago. It was just the fact that, despite it not working, it's managed to be repeated by this particular professional, at the exclusion of anything else, until it made its way to the statement that got me giggling
