For those of you who have done reflex therapy with your children ...
I am wondering if we are being given the right sort of exercises for DS.
DS crawled (cross patterned) properly at 1 yrs of age. He belly crawled like this before that - and if you ask him to crawl now he can only do it in a cross pattern way. He is nearly 4.
The therapist keeps asking him to do homolateral movements ie left arm and left leg together, followed by right arm and right leg together etc
She asked us to get him to do this in belly crawling, four point crawling and now in elephant/bear crawling.
DS cannot do it at all. He just goes straight into the cross patterned type of crawling each time - despite 2 weeks with each type of trying to get him to learn the homolateral version.
Am I banging my head against a brick wall for no reason? It seems to me that the cross patterning is the best way anyway isn't it? If he's learned naturally, is it really necessary to go back to same side crawling?
I have asked the therapist all of this, but she just says it would be good for him to learn some sort of same sided movement ... no more explanation than that though - so I wondered whether any of you had been asked to do the same thing?
Thank you.
