Sleeplessness and Equasym XL

Hi my DS2 with a diagnosis of ADHD started a trial of Equasym XL this week. All seemed to be going well the first couple of days until last night when he was awake until 1am. He normally sleeps better than this. Just wondering if anyone has any experience of this. Is it likely to be a "permanent" side effect or is it possible it may pass? Want to be prepared for what I am letting myself in for!

ive heard of this but dont have personal exp but most people from what ive heard do very well on it and find concentration and other symptoms improve but having said that no drug is right for everyone but give it time it cant work over night, but if side effects are worrying you go back to ds gp/paed who prescribed it, hopefully last night was just a one off

It may just be a blip, but my DS who also takes Equasym XL ended up sleeping very little (for him) on it and they decided to prescribe Melatonin for him to help him drift off to sleep. It has worked really well and now he goes off to sleep without any problems.

Thanks for this - fingers crossed for tonight - not looking too sleepy at the moment!!

I've found the only thing that worked for DD was Melatonin, but good luck might just be a blip :)

We also needed melatonin to get dd off to sleep on EquasymXL. The paed said it wasn't good to use it long term though. In the end we felt medication wasn't for dd as she was unhappy taking it and the side effects of insomnia and appetite loss were unpleasant for her. It works well for concentration though.
