Legal entitlement - this may be useful

I'm linking to a document I received at work today. It's called "Cemented To The Floor By Law" and details the legal duties in relation to disabled children and their familes with which public bodies must comply.

It refers to England (and Wales?) but the law in Scotland is different.

It's not a particularly easy read, but if anyone is having a battle with their council/NHS board etc, it may be useful.

Agnes - thank you.
This should be a sticky at the top of the board.

Everything is there - parents just need to utilise it

thank you- I will wade through it soon

Hi. I am in Scotland. Do you know if there is an equivalent document for us? Also, is the "Every Disabled Child Matters" guide for parents out yet? Where could I get it? Thanks.

Looks very interesting. Thanks

Bigpants, I am in Scotland too - my interest in disability is work related rather than personal - and to the best of my knowledge there is no equivalent. If you have an education issue, I can give you details of the best people to help, but if it's a LA issue, it's harder because they all have different criteria. And I don't know anything about the NHS.

Thanks for this - just going through assessment for social services holiday support and some very helpful information on using blanket criteria to judge need.

Thank you Agbes- exactly what I need

beautifulgirls · 25/01/2011 23:07

Thanks you

I'm glad you're finding it useful. I'm sure it's not really for public consumption, but I thought it would at least let you know what you are up against, because it seems that no-one's getting anything without a fight these days.
