Feeling very sorry for my DD and myself today.
Had yet another call from her school to go pick her up because she's ill again Sad

Same symptoms as usual, slight temp, being sick and keeps saying she needs a wee, but only doing tiny dribbles. Guess it means she has yet another urine infection Sad If the dr confirms when we go see her tonight, that'll be 7 months running that she's had 1.

Am at the end of my tether with this. There's got to be something someone can do for her.

Hi NicLin1978 so sorry to hear about you dd.My dd had similar when she was younger in the end they did scans.Although nothing was found the dr's put her on long term antibiotics. She took them every day for 3 years. She now longer needs them.I would definately ask for tests.

Hi rettmum. Thanks Smile 3 yrs is a long time to be on medication. How old is your DD if you dont mind me asking. A referal for a renal scan has been done so we are waiting for an appointment but we were warned it could take months before we hear from them Sad
Its hard watching her be so ill all the time and not being able to do anything about it

Hi my dd is 12 now she rett syndrome so is profoundly mentally and physically disabled.I know we had to wait a long time for our dd to have her scan.Really do wish we all did not have to wait so long for everything.

If she does go on antibiotics remeber to give her probiotics (those yogurt drink thingies) at the same time...

Hi. My dd went through similar a few years ago. She had constant urine infections and courses of antibiotics. She was 12/13yrs at the time.
She was referred for a kidney/bladder scan-all normal, except it showed she wasnt emptying her baldder fully.
She was referred to a Paediatrician, and this was really useful. He put her on an antibiotic for 6 months, but, it was just once a day, instead of the usual 3/4 times/day. He also advised her to go to the loo every few hours-no hanging-on till the last minute, and to use wipes rather than loo-roll. And, the usual-drink plenty fluids and wipe from front-to-back.(sorry,TMI!).
We saw him again after 6months, she was fine, and discharged. Shes now 16yrs, and has had no infections since.
6months/3yrs, may seem a long time to be on meds, but it is better, than a constantly poorly dd,feeling miserable-urine infec. are horrible, and missing lots of school.
Hope she feels better soon.

DS had kidney/bladder stones and was put on a long term dose of mantibiotics so that he didn't get infections. It was a lower dose than it would be to get rid of an infection. Might be worth considering to save her the misery.

I had infection for one year off and on.
Then they finally gave me a stronger/different antibiotic and I never got it back.
Seems I had developed a resistant strand and
the AB never got rid of the bacteria so it kept flaring up. Also something to check out.
Good luck.

I'd suspect either vu reflux or something like that (obv you'll know more with tests) OR it's the same infection being treated with wrong antibiotics. UTIs can be v tricky to treat. What bacteria has been cultured from samples?

Thank you Ladies. Couldn't get back on yesterday because dd was so poorly.

Doctor confirmed Urine infection and gave her antibiotics. He was very concerned about her as her temp was 103, her eyes were glazed, she didn't seem to know where she was or what was going on and she wasn't keeping anything down. He sent us home saying that if her temp hadn't gone down by 10pm and she hadn't kept any fluids down we were to take her straight to A&E.
We spent the evening trying to cool her down in the bath. Managed to get her temp down to about 101 which helped her keep some fluids down. Even managed to get 1st lot of antibiotics into her.
This is the worst she has ever been with it & tbh I was really worried & had a few tears.

She is a bit better this morning. Temp still around 102 though but she seems to be more alert and knows where she is and she hasn't been sick since about 9pm last night.

Fingers crossed she's on the mend and gets better as the day goes on

Thank you again for your support. Am so glad I found this site Grin it can get very lonely not having people in the same situation as you to talk to.

Gosh - poor you and your DD. A prophelactic antibiotic may help until she's scanned. My DD has been on them for two years and they've helped enormously.

herjazz · 26/01/2011 00:08

hope she's feeling better today NicLin1978 and temp is coming down.

DD's been on trimetheprim prophylaxis a very long time. But yes they have been fantastic
