Ideas to stop skin picking please

Ds is picking.. I'm pretty sure it's more habit / sensory rather than anxiety..
Thing is the toe nail / skin picking is causing infections.. We haven't long finished abs and just got clear... And now it's infected again!... He can't live on ABs.

And now ds is getting the odd preteen spot.. And he's picking! And then he's picking the scab.. If he carries on he is going to really scar his face ( admittedly 2 picked spots only at the moment.. But it's going to get worse!)..

Anyone had any success with skin picking?

blue tac?

not to cover the picked bits but for something to fiddle with.

DD constantly fiddles and doodles. blue tac gives her something to do.

we do use fidget toys ( sewn into school trouser pocket) and blue tac..

Rubber bands maybe?

I'm stumped on this.. Mainly because I'm not seeing the actual picking .. More the results!
