Statement - how long to respond ?

School and I filled all the forms in before Xmas and school sent it off. Do they have a timescale on how long it takes for them to have a look/acknowledge ?

Yes, six weeks. They are obliged to let you know whether they will do a statutory assessment or not within 6 (working) weeks. LAs don't observe the school holidays so you should only have a few days extra than that to wait because of the Christmas/New Year bank holidays.

I would ring and check they've recieved it. They have 6 weeks to decide whether or not to assess, but I think you should recieve something confirming reciept and letting you know timescales. I did anyway.

I'd ring too. I got a letter back within 6 days saying they were going to carry out an assessment.

The school have requested it - will they not tell them first ? I am in school on Thursday for a Gov meeting so could ask Head then ?

I would think you would hear as the school did, if not sooner. I suspect if you've not heard anything then the school wont have either. You can ask on Thursday but if the school haven't heard anything you are no furthur on.

I really would ring the lea direct and check they have recieved it. It is not unheard of schools to be late sending these things off. Nor is it unheard of for lea's to take longer than they should responding if school has applied.

I would ring and find out if they've got it. If they have tell them you hadn't heard anything and thought you should have maybe recieved some confirmation (you should have). If they say they havn't got it them you can ask the head when they sent it.
