Sensory processing difficulties without ASD?

Is it common to have sensory difficulties without having any ASD at all? Ds has sensory issues and we believe, as do some professionals, that he has AS. Ados test was negative and paed is adamant he has not got difficulties in the triad of impairments and would not do any further tests for HFA.
