Well we got enough snow to justify not going to school.. So we put the tree up and played in the snow instead!

Thanks Leonie, I think you could be right.

He hasn't had a night terror since he was tiny, but he did go to bed with a migraine this evening and he's had two suspected absences in the past week, so I'm wondering if there's some sort of misfiring going on.

Forgot to say, I have some home made dark chocolate, cinnamon and vanilla truffles if anyone wants one.

signandsingcarols · 18/12/2010 08:08

ooo.... truffles, yes pls! if there are any left? I could swap lavender fizzing bath bombs?? (also homemade).

Read my post back from last night, and realised I missed saying congrats on SENCO job, and like some of the others I wish you were ours!

I too imagained ds outside looking over hedge, Confused

got up this morning, and Yay we have snow! Xmas Grin.

purplepidjbauble · 18/12/2010 10:24

Morning all! Mmmmmm choccy for breakfast nom nom

Moosemama, that made me chuckle about your DS and the laydees Xmas Smile

We have an entire half inch of the 10 predicted, but the clouds are rapidly drawing in so there's probably more on the way. I just hope it arrives on my weekend off so I can actually enjoy it! Last batch we had was my on shift days, and I never got to go sledging Xmas Sad

moosemama · 18/12/2010 10:43

signandsing, you-re on - fair swapsies and I could do with a lovely relaxing lavender bath. Xmas Grin

Morning purple. Yep, he's a laydeez man alright, but totally oblivious to the fact. Xmas Grin

We have a good few inches of snow this morning and its still coming down thick and fast. Fortunately we are having a pj day so I'm not a bit bothered by it. We realised this morning that we no longer have a sledge, so it might have to be dh's mission to track one down over the weekend.

Ds1 is obviously poorly this morning, but insisting he's fine. He has a temp and his face is really green, but he will absolutely not accept that he's ill. It does explain his night terror though I think. He's happy that we have declared a pj day though and it means that he'll rest without feeling singled out. He hates being the poorly one. He's currently holed up on the sofa watching a million episodes of Pingu with his little sister.

Right, am off to bake another batch of mini christmas cakes, ridiculously late, but they're all alcohol free so it doesn't really matter. Then I have to make about another 100 truffles and some gluten free shortbread and stained glass window biscuits.

Hope everyone has good weekends. Xmas Smile

purplepidjbauble · 18/12/2010 11:11

The clouds are whipping across the sky here (still in bed Xmas Shock)

Poor old DS1, I hope he enjoys his jimjam day. But I don't understand why you're working so hard when you could join them... Although the baking sounds lovely Xmas Grin I'm getting off lightly this year. I'm working xmas day and boxing day, so will be cooking chicken curry (yes really, that's what he wants!) and letting his family entertain him. DP will pick me up on boxing day eve so i can sleep in the car on the way up to see his family, then off to see his god-daughter and her dad and step-family before back to work. I haven't met DP's GD yet (psycho mother) but little baby was 5 weeks when we first met in the summer and calmed instantly for me - sooooooooooooooo cute!!!

I will be off shortly for a major house clean. DP's sister and family are coming on wednesday - DNiece is 5 and ASD and chews so the hosue needs kid-proofing. I will be looking after her here while they all go off to a concert. I am feeling the weight of the responsibility already Xmas Hmm

purplepidjbauble · 18/12/2010 11:12

Oh, and I won't be using a sledge if i go, I'll be using my bodyboard. Should slide jsut as well, and more room for my fat arse!

moosemama · 18/12/2010 11:17

No choice but to bake I'm afraid.

I have a ridiculous number of hampers left to put together and while its saving us £££ it is rather heavy on my time. Dh says he will help, but his massive contribution to making a whole batch of christmas chutney was to chop one onion - which I then had to chop again myself! Xmas Hmm Xmas Grin

bigcar · 18/12/2010 11:31

moose, your hampers sound lovely Xmas Smile Hope your ds feels better soon, we're having a pj day too, can't go any where with this much snow and it's still coming thick and fast!

purple, think we've got your share of the snow, we've about 5 or 6 inches already with no signs of it stopping. So pleased we have no plans to go out this weekend!

intothewest · 18/12/2010 11:37

agree, hampers sound lovely-we've got piles of snow and all the plans for today will have to be canceled-we'll just have to play in the snow and eat chocolate-hard life-purple I'm not too far from you so snow may be heading your way

bigcar · 18/12/2010 11:54

intothewest, sounds like a tough weekend ahead for you then Xmas Grin Must go find some chocolate!

moosemama · 18/12/2010 14:55

Well, I have a dozen mini christmas cakes in the oven and am just about to start on my next batch of truffles.

We have got just under a foot of snow now and its not showing any signs of stopping.

Dh walked up to the village to stock up on bread, milk, cheese and a few bits of fruit and veg so at least we won't starve. Xmas Grin

Ds is still insisting he's not ill, but blatantly is so I've told him he has to stay in bed - much to his disgust. I am now officially a horrible Mummy - apparently! Xmas Hmm Xmas Grin

Honestly, he'll freak out at the slightest scratch, but when he's really ill he never seems to recognize it. Even when he's throwing up repeatedly he tries to tell me he's fine.

purplepidjbauble · 18/12/2010 15:17

Well, I have hoovered, washed the floor of, dusted and washed all the loose covers in the living room. DP has cleared out the office/spare room and hoovered upstairs. I have wrapped all the Christmas pressies, still a couple of people to buy for but he's doing his brother and I'm doing his 10yo god-daughter and her 2yo half-sister so i don't mind, I love shoppping for kids! Suggestions welcome for a horse-mad 10yo, though. I haven't met her yet because her psycho mum is weird about access Xmas Sad

Still need to make the spare bed, deep clean the kitchen and hoover the hall.

Ooh, yeah, and I put up all my decorations so i had something to put the pressies under Xmas Grin No room for a tree indoors so that's alive and outside and I have fake branches round the banisters instead lol

intothewest · 18/12/2010 17:49

purple-also shopping for horse mad 10 year olds-If you have some kind of 'country store'(Scats-mole valley) go in there-I've got socks with horses on and a great backpack full of grooming brushes and treats- great even if they don't have their own horse-it wasn't expensive either-or there are some great books about on horse care Smile

purplepidjbauble · 18/12/2010 17:57

Awesome, Into, thanks. There's a Scats just up the road, although in the opposite direction to the fabric shop I need to go to tomorrow...

I've jsut remembered I have a book of horse stories on the shelf from when i was a kid. I might either give her that (if it's still in decent nick) or look up some of the authors. A really posh copy of Black Beauty, maybe...

intothewest · 18/12/2010 18:22

horse novels are great-my dd read lots of 'retro'ones from her granny when she was younger- she's not sure about Black Beauty. for a 10 yr old - her words 'I read it when I was 10 and it scarred me for life !' (probably the ginger bit)

signandsingcarols · 18/12/2010 18:35

Hi all, purple bloody hell, can you come and clean my house???? ( I console my self with 'people come to see me not my house' but really know I am actually slummy mummy... Xmas WinkBlush x 20! )

Ah well, have been making the pressies too, tried a new pork pie receipe, (sp) not as good as the old one, so back to that for the boxing day spread, (came home from town with two tubi-grips for dh, and two pigs trotters for jelly!)

moosemama if you would like a couple of bath bombs pm me your address, and I will bubble wrap them and send, I think mums need as many opportunities for pampering as poss!

LOL at dh's chopping, mine is similar... altho ds loves to cook, am currently laminating the symbols for the receipes he likes to cook, so he can 'read' what to do. Already can sign most of the actions and ingredients. (proud mummy moment!)

intothewest · 18/12/2010 18:44

great idea on the cooking symbols- I'll have to do that when ds is older

purplepidjbauble · 18/12/2010 19:01

Into, you inspired me and we're going to get her a magazine subscription to Pony Magazine. The website is a load of shite though, so DP is going to do it through a proper shop tomorrow!

I will also get her something proper to unwrap when we visit - maybe a nice horse story book, I'll scour the charity shops when I get time. Now just to decide what to buy a two year old with a large, well-off family. I've got a freezable teething ring/rattle for the 6mo baby, does that sound about the right sort of thing at that age??

used2bthin · 18/12/2010 21:28

Hi can I join in, sorry to all of you with poorly children. Moosemama my DD does creepy things at night, I have often woken to find her staring at me and swaying, paranormal activity style!

I have just been given the role of inclusion officer at my new job which is similar to SENCO type role, great to have people with RL experiene of these things I think. I am really looking forward to getting going with it. Have felt a bit of a spare part at work due to having notdone it for four years but this is something I will know about in ways the other staff memebers may not so will be a good chance to seem worthy ofthe job I hope.

We were meant to move today, so sad looks like it may be after christmas now.

purplepidjbauble · 18/12/2010 22:00

That both rocks and sucks for you, used2b, I don't know whether to congratulate or commiserate!

Have a biscuit from the stash of junk food work gave me for Christmas. Quite why they have to spend £50 on crisps and chocolate, I don't know. We'd rather have vouchers. Or a pay rise!

used2bthin · 18/12/2010 22:23

Thanks purplepidjbauble I have been eating the marzipan I bought to make pastries with christmas morning!

Moving in with my boyfriend and was looking forward to christmas together will see what the snow does but its looking unikely, boo!

Panicking about being stuck and DD getting ill though so will be staying put till the snow clears all being well.

purplepidjbauble · 18/12/2010 22:42

Ooh, how exciting! Does mean you can do things a bit slower, though - take a few bits at a time. Or is he miles away?

used2bthin · 18/12/2010 23:03

He is about half an hour away but the new place is in the middle of us both. Tried to at least get the keys today but had to turn back. I have a month to pay on the place I am in now and his place hasnt been let yet either so it can be gradual. He is saying well we can get the smaller things in like clothes (he is deluded about that I have sooo many clothes) so it will be ok just disappointing and its all been a bit stressful as these things are. At some point I will have everything done though, hate moving and it was mad doing it ths time of year.
