Evening all,
Late as usual. Been umming and ahing over an outfit in the sales to wear to ds1's assessment day in January. I really don't want to wear jeans, but don't have much else these days.
I'm pretty good at online searches, but awful at making decisions. Have ended up emailing my Mum to make the final decision for me.
Sorry to hear about all the poorly people and their dcs. We have been a house of ills as well. Dd has a nasty chest infection and is on antibiotics that make her hyper and beligerent
and ds2 has had that awful flu that's doing the rounds. The GP seemed to think it might have been swine flu, but as they don't swab, I guess we'll never know. I have been knocked back by a double whammy of sinus problems and migraines simultaneously and ds1 has been pretty much like all the other children with ASD, totally messed up by all the school/christmas chaos, so he's exhausted and ended up with a migraine himself this evening.
Got the results of ds's WISC IV and it has totally befuddled the Ed Psychs, as it seemed to come out the polar opposite of what everyone expected, with ds showing good auditory skills, but poor visual skills. (He pretty much never responds to verbal instruction, without special measures to get his attention etc, but can read a whole book in a couple of hours and still tell you 99% of all the facts he's learned from it months later.)
Lots of other confusing and conflicting results as well, so the scoring is being re-done and analysed to a much more detailed level over Christmas and we should hopefully get the results and a better insight into his strengths and weaknesses the first week in January, just before his assessment.
The only thing that came across loud and clear was that he is very intelligent, but has extremely slow processing skills. Basically, he can probably complete almost any task he is set - given long enough, but will very likely fail any timed assignments/tests, due to not completing the task, rather than because he's incapable of doing or understanding the work. We were told he scored badly enough on this to qualify for extra time in exams, so at least that's something good to come out of it all.
On a more positive note, he got quite a few christmas cards and noticeably so from certain young ladies in his class. (They don't tend to send to everyone in the class in his class.) He thinks they hate him as they are always 'winding me up' (his words) and was totally bemused, but I've seen how coy they are when we bump into them either in the playground after school or outside school. (Lots of doe eyed looks and fluttering lashes!
)
Bless him, he has absolutely no idea what a cutie he is or that his aloof attitude is actually making him more, rather than less attractive to certain girls and they only 'wind him up' to get him to notice them. It all goes straight over his head.
