Well take your snow boots off.. The fire is on and the drinks are on the table.

Took ds to the gp today ( just a minor thing).. But I think the GP had forgotten he has asd.. Until whilst telling ds how many times a day he needs to take his antibiotic.. Ds starts telling the DR all about the medical reference books on the shelf.. And how his brother has the same copy of greys anatomy .. cue monologue and DR asking if Ds had listen to what he said and then looking at me with a ' whoops I forgot' expression on his face :o

he was very good with ds and noticable changed the way he spoke to ds making things really clear for him.

Just made me giggle! Oh and now ds wants those little display body bits and bones for his bedroom!

No snow here either Bigcar - i think we live in the same area from memory.
I'm just glad that i finally get to go on this thread - i'm usually too late.
My DS is the same in DRs surgeries Arsenic, He has a BNF copy (from a pharmacist friend) - and when the dr prescribes, he usually knows which page of the book it's on, or what chapter/section.
They find it quite disconcerting - me, i find it quite amusing. I don't tell them anything. I prefer to just watch their faces trying to work out how he knows.
He spends hours reading it and copying (dyspraxic style - or doctors style?) it out. He wants to be a dr - and also try to diagnose as well!

DS has been at home all day so I am more than ready for DH to get home!!
Got a call to pick DS up yesterday as he was unwell. Just a cold and not much of one at that but this years teacher seems pretty keen on sending them home if they say they feel unwell - telling me how pale ds is......He's always pale!!!
THen got called last evening to say if he was going in could I take him as his school bus has broken down.....so I have taken the easy (?) and warm option and kept him off!

Tomorrow we have time off as the PILs are taking DS to the school bazaar (FIL actually enjoys it!!) while DH and I go and buy a new computer.....at last!! (Annoyingly the old one has decided to work today!)

fightingthezombies · 26/11/2010 15:51

Off christmas shopping in a mo so won't be back until later. Had good news this week about statement hours being increased. Had to complain about counsellor upsetting ds and now have to see a manager next week about this. Ds had sensory assessment which confirmed he does have processing issues as we thought so will be getting some help from OT. All in all a good week (for a change). No snow yet but it's brass monkeys here so won't be long. Wrap up warm everyone and have a good weekend!

Triggles · 26/11/2010 15:51

No snow here. But it's certainly freezing!

Arsenic - glad your GP is good with your DS. Last time we took DS2 to GP was to get a referral to the paediatrician, which she refused to give, and then said about DS2 "well, he is obviously not normal.." Hmm Charming. Think we'll be taking him to a different GP in the surgery from now on.

Not sure what we're having for tea tonight. Something easy as far as I'm concerned. I'm not adverse to fish and chips, as long as DH is willing to go get them. Grin

TheArsenicCupCake · 26/11/2010 16:20

Fighting glad you had a good week.. Star do you want me to come and poke people in the ribs for you?

Aunt.. We need a copy of that book! .. Will keep ds and ds1 amused for hours! ( ds1 wants to go to bristol medical school lol) and ds2 just loves facts!

It's pretty snowing now .. Unforunately dh is out driving in it!.. So will be pleased when he gets home safe and sound tonight.

We also have the christmas fair tomorrow .. Ds2 has asked if he can sit on santas lap.. This is something I'm not looking toward to tackling ( and I have to very soon as he is now in secondary school).

Anyway we are having jacket spuds tonight ( easy dinner .. Lazy mummy!) and I'm cracking open the hot chocolate as my wine bottle ran out and I forgot to buy some! ( aghhhhhh)... Actually fancy some nice mulled wine and a mince pie! ( likes to star early!)

woolyxmastree · 26/11/2010 16:38

Evening all! No snow here.

Im on the wine later when my delivery arrives.

Didnt get anything done all week as DD had a mystery illness, ended up in A&E last Sunday and off school at home untill today. She didnt want to miss the allotments trip! But came home very moody and told me to leave her alone, she also now says she does not like school. :(

I asked school in her home/school diary what they had planned for speech therapy..(we had a meeting two weeks ago discussing this)..they said we havent received anything! :(

One day of school has ruined my week!

I fancy an easy dinner too...anyone going to the chip shop? Get me some! :)

Hi all- cold here-no snow.My ds loves going to the docs;but he just likes the 'up theres'(sensors)as they are blue and the automatic doors- This has turned out to be a wonderful week-I was only saying a couple of weeks ago on here how I was bit down with the nappy situation(constant changing)well this week he's started to go when he's put on the loo and went 5 times at school today-!!!!!I can hardly believe it- I am sooooo proud of him

bigcar · 26/11/2010 16:45

aha, lovely to be back in the warm again

arsenic, thanks for the reminder, I have some mincepies I must dig out for later, the sort that have icing on the top rather than pastry, yum Smile Is that a sharp stick you have for poking people in the ribs, I may need your services Grin

auntevil, sw londonish we are Smile still no snow but to be honest I'll quite happily wait. Dd2 and ds1 are off on a night hike with the scouts later, will have to persuade them to put a coat on I think Hmm

fighting, I see you've dumped last weeks name change then Grin may be fightingthecrowds would be more appropriate for you today!

well, school have been excellent this week Hmm for the school trip coming up they asked me to go to look after dd3 as her 1:1 had been allocated a group of children. This would be the 1:1 that is paid for through her statement. I have a younger ds2 and finding a sitter isn't easy, but that's not the point, I shouldn't have to. They weren't listening to me so I got the wonderful lady from parent partnership to ring them and all of a sudden it was a misunderstanding and her normal support will be available [yay] Oh and this was after they'd told all the parents they could only take those that were crb checked through the school, which I'm not.

PolarEyes · 26/11/2010 16:45

evening all

we had our TAC meeting yesterday. The SENCo had full-on sulks throughout the whole thing. Whenever I spoke she would reply to my husband instead. could barely look at DH as I knew I would start giggling! the school weaseled out of main issue (how they were using his statemented hours) as I expected but I think they now realise we aren't going to be passive yes whatever you say ma'am parents. DS1 is making good progress in all areas so that is worth a drink or two!

ouryve · 26/11/2010 16:46

Been snowing since Wednesday here!

It took us twice as long as usual to get the kids to school because I had to walk DS2, this morning. I think he was knackered from walking there and back, yesterday and either refused to budge, or ran rings around me. I figured the snow would be sufficiently compacted to take his buggy down for him, to pick him up this afternoon because I suspected he'd plonk himself on the ground saying "sit dow" more than the 20 times his did last night and I didn't think my back could take it.

Needless to say, it's a lot harder to push uphill with him in it than it is downhill, empty. I ache.

He also had a spectacular meltdown when he saw the back yard all white and different for the first time. We go in and out the front way, on foot.

DH is home early for him, anyhow. Another 10 minutes rest and it's easy stuff from the freezer for tea. Friday is Fish Feet day!

My homework for this evening is annotating a copy of 10 things every student with autism wishes you knew to take to school. I have a long overdue meeting with the woman from the autism advisory service who has taken over DS1 from the lady who left, plus the new SENCO and his class teacher. His teacher seems to have this idea that he needs rules that he must conform to or else be punished. She's on a hiding to nothing with that. I'm hoping for a morning when I can be forthright and articulate and not just sit there with my tongue stuck to the roof of my mouth like a lump of rubber. I should really type up some crib notes before then, too. In fact, I should really type 2 sets, but make sure I only take in the version that doesn't turn the air blue.

bigcar · 26/11/2010 16:53

easy dinners seem to be the theme tonight, we've got pizza Smile can't be bothered with anything else.

star, did you have any luck on the glue ear front? Don't normally name change for christmas but may consider it this year Smile

My ds won't eat pizza-he pulls all the cheese off (he'll eat cheese on toast)My easy tea is going to be a takeaway (and a glass or two of wine)

bigcar · 26/11/2010 17:08

that's good, hopefully not too long a wait for your ds.

auntevil · 26/11/2010 17:18

Star - can't wait to see the names when you've had a glass or 3! on 24th Dec i might call myself Christmas Evel.
Starfish - i've had the same this week - 3 incidents at school - 1 come to collect he is unwell (needed to take his sweatshirt off to cool down and have something to eat and he was fine!) next was to inform as to a bump on the head and the third was to inform me he had eaten 7 smarties in maths and what was the likely 'outcome'. Have you thought about taking a foundation make-up colour chart and saying that you don't want him coming home before he either goes below the colour 'ice maiden' or above the colour 'scarlet woman'?
Arsenic - my DH is in forensics - if you want a stash of seriously anal data - he's your man!
Bigcar - i saw your name on the local pages so guess we must be close. The weekly school newsletter suggested the LA website to check if the school is open if it snows over the weekend, so i guess our area is due for some.
ouryve - sympathies. Why is the hard part of the journey always uphill? Any of your neighbours got any big dogs that you could take for a walk - on their leads - tied to the buggy - you'd be doing them a favour - honest!
We've got a DIY weekend. Which means me doing all my DIY (painting) and all the rest of everything that needs to be done - food, homework, food shopping, football, washing etc. DH is doing DIY.

FanjoForTheMincePies · 26/11/2010 17:43

hello all!

can't type much as have really sore neck shoulders from lifting DD while she has been ill, and typing hurts!

She has developed separation anxiety when ill- won't go to bed. Took her to nuraery today to get her used to it and she didn't want to go at all and was wanting to leave, couldn't leave her. don't know how we will get her settled again.

she is still very weak though.

on the upside she has been interacting constantly with me and cuddling me.

TheArsenicCupCake · 26/11/2010 17:43

Auntevil... Anal data is always welcome in this house :)
( how mad would that sound on the other boards! Lol.. It keeps my ds very quiet for a long time ..< evil cackle>.

Having fed my hoards I am now intending a DVD for them.. I'm tired out tonight and the weekend has way too much planned!

OP posts:
FanjoForTheMincePies · 26/11/2010 17:44

and speaking lots, usually in stroppy fashion, i.e. demanding to go home from nursery!

intothewest · 26/11/2010 18:08

Weeee-it's just started to snow here-DD and her friend are really excited;and ds is saying 'snowman' over and over again....

LollipopViolet · 26/11/2010 18:11

Meh.

Off for some food, will write more when back.

Suffice to say, I'm tired, and glad it's the weekend.
