Digestive Enzymes or GF/CF Diet

DS 8yrs has adhd and has been on a gf/cf diet for a few months. He has improvement in exzema and behaviour. When talking about this with friends a few of them have asked if I've tried digestive enzymes instead of restricting his food. I am going to start looking into these to find out more.

Does anyone use these instead of a gf/cf diet and would you recommend these?

hi dietdiva, we use them as well as GFCF. He's been on pancreatic vegenzymes since the summer and they definitely have a positive effect on his bowels, not sure about behavioural stuff as its all so interlinked with other stuff we're doing. we see a biomed doctor and he recommended them, but now we're considering trying other enzymes. This website www.enzymestuff.com has been quite useful so far and so has the ABE yahoo group. hth

thanks jomamanhasjoinedfightclub. I don't really know much about enzymes so just starting to look into it.

Would like to give them a try even as an option for holidays etc and I wouldn't even consider going on holiday yet as I wouln't know where to start with gf/cf food abroad.

DS is currently on medication (Equasym) and has signifcantly reduced the dose since being on the gf/cf diet. Do you know if these are ok to take when using these medications.

We see so may drs for ds but no-one seems to be much help.

I tried the digestive enzymes but DS hated it and stopped but in the week I tried I didnt notice any difference with behaviour...

blueshark did your ds hate them because of the taste? I suppose it wouldn't matter how great they are if I cant get ds to take them. He swallows fishoil capsules no problem but wont have anything liquids espcially if it doesnt taste nice.

with my DS is the other way around, he prefers the liquid and I tried to mix the powder with juice but still tasted horid. I always try things before giving it to him and honestly this one was a big NO.
