Statement today

Got the draft statement today. It's littered with lots of 'DS will have access to... groups, safe place, hey person, groups to discuss social stories etc etc'

It also seems like a lot is left with school/teacher e.g. 'teacher will plan an individual behaviour plan to include' stuff like guidance about managing sensory issues, modelling social problems.

This has got to be rubbish hasn't it? Why would you leave a child who needs a statement in the hands of the school and teachers who don't know what to do with him. How on earth would a teacher draw up and implement such a plan?

Oh and he's been given 15 hours.

I will be seeking advice from usual channels, but througts welcomed!

Support has to be both specified and quantified. As this not specified nor properly quantified I would reject this proposed statement out of hand.

Have a look at Parts 2 and 3 very carefully as these are the most important parts of the whole document. Independent organisations like IPSEA, SOSSEN and or ACE would be able to tell you what it should actually say.

It should read "DS will receive...", certainly not, "DS will have access to.." because that is both vague and wishy washy.

I have name changed after the incident a few weeks back on here but you might know who I am if I say thanks for the t-shirt!

It's a cut and paste job as expected - bits and pieces from reports - and at least it's all in Part 3 (not 5) BUT it still doesn't stop that feeling of 'oh no, here we go again'.

It just leaves way too much discretion in the hand of the school. Would you mind having a look at it if I email you?

If you start suggesting changes they will takes weeks to do tiny changes until its right. If you reject it then you will get it sorted much quicker.

Wasuup, I thought you had 15 days to suggest changes/amendments and then they get the chance to offer a final statement and that it was at this point you could refuse it. Is that not right?
