ADHD - Wobble cushion or move n sit cushion ?

Hi

My DS suffers from ADHD and is having problems sitting still and concentrating at school so I was thinking of getting either a wobble cushion or move n sit cushion to help him.

I was wondering if anyone has used either of these and whether one is better than the other. My DS is 7 and I'm not sure whether to go for a full size cushion or junior one.

I'm also having problems finding either of these cushions at a reasonable price - has anyone any suggestions on where I can get these on line ?

I'm also looking for some reasonable priced sand timers.

I bought a wobble cushion in TK Maxx today in the clearance bit for £4. Worth a look!

I would recommend the Move and sit cushion as its good for their posture too. We have four of these one for each of my two eldest at home and at school, We have the Junior ones. My eldest is coming up 9 and my middle one is 6 and they are good. Though the wobble cushion is good if you have co-ordination problems too as you can use it to balance on. Try this company, a friend of mine runs it and I know shes a friend but shes also one of the cheaper around. She'll also give you any advice you need.

Today I managed to pick up a wobble cushion in TK MAXX for £6. (Chivers - thanks for the suggestion for looking in there !)

He is not very impressed with it at the moment ! Tried using it when sitting on a dining chair doing his homework, but he just kept falling off it.

Is the cushion meant to be inflated until its is hard ?

Ours isn't. There is meant to be some give in it. Ours has already been used as a foot rest, pillow, something to stand on as well as to sit on!

As a tutor I have used a wobble cushion with several children. I think the amount it is inflated is a personal preference. I'd go for under -inflated rather than over-inflated to start with, but put more air in if your ds asks for it.

Still not going great ! He keeps squashing it and putting it on his head like a hat !!

I am beginning to think it is going to cause more problems than it will solve. I don't think his teacher is going to be keen for him to have it in class at this rate !

Ds2 uses a movensit cushion both at home and at school. We have it quite underinflated, as otherwise he just bounces around on it. He's improved a huge amount over the past 9 months but he's also had lots of OT input and come off his anti-epileptic drugs, so, as always, it's hard to say exactly which changes made the difference.

It doesn't work with all children, but I'd persevere with it for a week or so with homework. He may find it beneficial once the novelty wears off! If after a week or so, he is still repeatedly taking it out from under him and messing with it, it probably isn't worth using. ( Though one child I know likes to use it as a wobbly footrest so you could also try this?)

We have a wobble cushion. It's under inflated and ds uses his at the tea table. It's improved tea time hugely for him. If he'd take it out to restaurants when we go, eating out would be so much less stressful :)
