6 months wait for orthotics appt--a record?

Have moved London boroughs. DD grown out of Piedros supplied by previous borough.

Saw new physio today who agreed that the Kickers I have bought for DD do not support her forefoot as well as the Piedros but are probably the best thing I can buy on the high street. But the wait for an orthotics appointment is 6 monthseven though DD is not a new referral and doesn't need new inserts or AFOs as they were made with growing roomit's just the shoes!

She did look to see if they had any boots that might fit DD in the meantime as sometimes people don't collect their boots or they are unsuitable. But no luck...

Blimey Arabica, that is a bit of a wait. It used to drive me nuts that I used to have to make an appointment in June to get dd's shoe raise sorted for September. Shame things haven't improved any.

i have some navy piedros in a size 27 i think, used but still pretty supportive etc, used for about 2 months. im miles from you but if they are right size could look into postage?

anonandlikeit · 09/11/2010 23:24

thats bollocks, can you choose to continue using another borough in the same way you can sometimes choose hospitals for treatment?
May be worth asking your gp he amy eb able to search for shorter waiting times.

That is so kind to offer the shoes, but she needs a 28 or 29.
Apparently no, can't go back to old borough and think as orthotics is linked to physio service it wouldn't be feasible to go elsewhere. Physio is going to try and move her up the waiting list, but am not holding my breath!
Anyone know how much it might cost to get them privately?

yup i can its a 7 month wait here , you wait 3 months for emergency appoinments

ye syou can buy them do you know the size and the width , There around £100 a pair might need physio to ok it

www.gilbert-mellish.co.uk/products/footwear/Piedro/index.php

We get ds3 boots from there but as we now have afos made private they order them and for once its nice to have a proper choice

That's a ridiculous wait, Arabica. DS2 just got new boots from Hartlepool, yesterday, less than 5 weeks after phoning to say he'd grown out of his old ones.

And sorry to say his old ones are some rather well worn but wide 27s, or else I'd offered them to you, scuffs, paint stains and all!

Arabica · 10/11/2010 17:32

I think the only person who can give me the right size/width is the physio who does the orthotics clinic though so it would have ot be a case of getting the whole thing done privately and we really don't have that kind of money!
