Hi, I am not sure if this is just this area, (if so sorry!) but the PCT (ie NHS) here has a Carer support Team, (different from the Carer's Centre and from Social Services)

I bumped into someone at my surgery who was dropping off info and they gave me a form to apply for funding to support me in my role as carer...

They gave examples like driving lessons, or a washing machine, but they also gave recreational activities too, (someone got a season ticket to the cinema) I asked for some funding towards a pass for the Council local sports facilities, so I can go and swim to relax, saying I would pay towards it too, and Ive' just heard they will pay for the whole thing! Grin Grin

Was a lovely surprise, so thought I would let people know, in case it is operating in your areas too...
