My daughter's speech therapist has discharged her for missing one appointment!!

Hi, I've just recieved a letter from my daughters speech therapist saying that she's been discharged from the service for failure to attend.

She only missed one session a few months ago, since then we've phoned a nomber of times and left about 3 messages saying sorry we missed a session, can we arrange another time? She hasn't got back to me at all and now we've been taken off her list.

I might right to them saying we've been trying to contact you and you haven't responded to any of my messages etc.

She'll be starting a new school soon hopefully, moving from private to state. Would her new school sort out her speech therapy then?

DS1 was in a group last year. Started with 4 kids, but by week 3 he was the only one. I often turn up to appointments early and can nearly always get in - the rate of people that "forget" is shocking.

So one person, forgetting once, doesn't seem like much, but 25 people, forgetting once, is basically a weeks worth of sessions.

I can see why they discharge, TBH.

Makes me uber paranoid about remembering though!

I would be surprised if you weren't put back on the books if you explain that you phoned several times and left messages.

Usually, it's crossed wires. Our policy is contact within one month of the missed appointment or discharge. Sometimes, due to miscommunication, people are taken off the books but if the parent calls immediately and explain, it would be unusual for them not to be put back on unless it was a second offence. We tend to assume the mistake is ours, at least in my department.
