My 16 week old has been fitted with a Pavlik Harness for 3 weeks now and where she used to sleep through the night she doesn't now and is often disturbed a few times. Could this be discomfort and is there any answer?

Hi

My daughter has been in the harness for last 8 weeks due to bilateral dislocations.

She was younger when she first went into it, 7 weeks and have to admit didn't notice huge difference but think when they are a bit older they're more used to moving around

only tip i had from hospital was to put small cushion or rolled up towel under legs to try to prevent discomfit on the shoulders from the legs hanging down when they are lying down. if that makes sense

my main problem is keeping her warm during day!

Think on the childrens health board is several mums whose children have been in pavlik, they may have more advice, or steps charity forum v helpful

Ps forgot DH just reminded me after 3 weeks dd2 also became v unsettled because harness was too tight as she had grown. They tend to put harness on tightly at first as well.

Not sure how often you are being reviewed but we rang and they saw her earlier and loosened harness

Thank you Hatescolds - that is more helpful advice than the doctor gave me. When I asked why her sleep was disrupted he said it was because my daughter was hungry. Well I think I would know if that was the case somehow!

I've put her in a size bigger clothes to cover up the harness and it helps to keep her warm if that advice helps.

I think you may be right and at 16 weeks she is fairly used to moving her legs about and feels restricted. I'm not sure if also the disruption is due to her moving from a 3 hour to a 4 hour routine but with the harness as well - its difficult to know what is right. I will try the towel tonight and pray for a good night's sleep!

Thank you.
