Hi there - I was wondering if anybody here has a child with this disorder. There is a chance that my dd2 (5yrs old) could be dx with this in December, purely as a communication disorder. Although she has a lot of ASD traits, we do not believe that she is ASD. She also has learning difficulties which makes school difficult. She is being assessed by SALT at school in December and we have asked for a diagnosis if poss (so that we can pass it on to subsequent teachers - her reception teacher did not really take any notice of her last year until the final week of term, when her reception scores came out and so do not trust teachers to recognise the difficulties she has). She has great language and poor communication. I'd be really interested to hear from anyone else whos child (or who has it themselves) has this disorder, esp without the ASD.

Many thanks

Lynne

My DD...5 tomorrow, has all the symptoms of SPD but was given a dx of asd with communication problems. Our psychologist believes it falls within the autistic spectrum but this is greatly debated. Our Inclusion teacher seemed to think its one of those dx that was being phased out so will eventually become ASD. Were waiting for further SALT assesments but the cognative tests results werent very good and were waiting for schools reaction.

HTH.

Thanks so much for replying. I have worked for years with autism and so have enough experience to make a guess that its not asd. When the senco and myself described dd to the SALT last week, this is what she came up with. To be honest - this is what we believe it is and would explain the asd traits. Rhiannas paed has written her off as ADHD (which she so obviously isn't, but with the brain damage shes got, this is really common), so we have been struggling on our own for a few years now. How is your dd doing at school?

Thanks for replying

love Lynne

My DD has been struggling at school...well I suppose I am struggling as she cant communicate and they dont seem to want to give her any extra resources or listen to outside input...Angry Anyway she loves it im just not sure shes learning and its a trade off for anxiety and exhaustion. Hmm
Hows your school situation? Any support? SA?

Im still expecting SPD to come up from SALT but shes only just met her last week so early days.

Leonie at our assesment they suggested DD cannot be HFA due to her S&L issues Confused..so we got ASD?! Hmm
