I am in absolute shock, went online today to check our bank account and there was a deposit for £191.20 and my heart started thumping as I checked who it was from - it said DLA!!!

I requested the form on 2 Sept and sent it in by registered post on 15th Sept, cannot believe they gave us middle rate in 3 weeks, i'm so chuffed, especially after the last few days.

Thanks to all of you who helped out with my questions and thank the Lord for Cerebra for making such a great guide on how to fill out the form. I wrote so much I reckon the person deciding must have thought it was easier to say yes than to have to read it all Wink

Woo hoo!!!!!

Eloise73 · 09/10/2010 15:19

I hope you guys get yours through soon too! Now I just have to wait for the letter telling me I got it and for how long. I'm really impressed the money arrived before they even told me!!!

We were praying for middle rate as it will almost cover 1 session a week at the Little Group nursery which is a specialist ASD nursery which is fab with severe speech and language delay. It will make a huge difference to DD's life.

Eloise, don't forget to call FTC helpline and tell them that you now receive DLA, as you'll get more CTC as well. It will be from the date you requested DLA forms as well, so should be backdated Smile.

keepingupwiththejoneses · 09/10/2010 16:06

Well done Smile

Hi Eloise - congrats on DLA - I have just started filling in the form. My little boy just started at Little group for 2 sessions a week and I am really struggling with the cost. They are great by the way and he is getting so much from it

brixy · 18/02/2011 07:03

hi my son has just been diagnosed with severe speech delay, was wondering if i should apply for DLA and if i would be awarded it, the SEN are applying for a statement for him but this will take a while should i wait till then or apply now?

signandsmile · 18/02/2011 07:46

Hi I'm sure someone more experienced will be along soon... but mu advice is apply now.

statemment is about his Education. DLA is for how his disabilities affect his (and your) life. You need to show how he is different from another child his age without his disabilties. For example my ds(ASD and Learning Disabilties and minimal speech) can't ask for help, can't understand spoken instructions, can't say he is hungry or thirsty or in pain.. (among lots of other things) (he uses sign language mostly)

Hope that helps.

There are lots of places for advice in how to complete... it's a bugger of a form, (partly cos it is so long, but also cos it makes you focus on all the things he can't do) Good luck!
