From when you very first applied for a SA until finalised statement?

We got it really quick. Requested June 2010 got proposed statement Sept 2010.

pucca · 08/10/2010 20:33

Sorry should have given more detail...We requested SA in Feb 2010 they refused, we got another EP report (updated one) and they agreed to SA got proposed statement end of Sept 2010.

June to Sept was from them agreeing to SA to receiving proposed statement.

School applied for DD in March and everything was in place for her starting reception in September of the same year

Lougle · 08/10/2010 21:22

Letter requesting SA sent in September 1st '09
Final statement naming lovely Special School issued 20th January 2010, 20 weeks in all.

DD1 is settling in and will go full-time after next week.

First application was by school in 2006 but was turned down. Then I re-applied May '10 but was declined . I argued the toss with LA and they agreed to assess. SA started Sept.

daisy5678 · 08/10/2010 23:23

Ummm...applied in the December before Reception year, with nursery backing. Turned down. Turned down. Filled in SENDIST form to appeal. Application then accepted Hmm in the March/ April, I think. Proposed Statement sent in August; Final Statement appeared in October. Well over the 6 months it should have taken. But it has been worth it in that no school could have had a hope of keeping my boy without it.

Claw3 · 09/10/2010 13:41

It has taken me 8 months from first applying for SA to get a NIL. I will appeal which will take a further 6-8 months, no doubt LA will back down just before tribunal again and issue a draft, then i will appeal again taking a further 6-8 months. That is a long time isnt it.

Getting a statement eventually will feel like winning the lottery!

Applied June 09. Refused to assess. Appealed and backed down Oct 09. Statement issued Feb 10 failed name our choice mainstream nursery on totally spurious grounds. Failed to flow advice paed, EP or Camhs but followed 'oral advice' given by outreach teacher which was not written down or shared. Second final stmt issued March 2010 naming nursery but not rest of package. Part of 1:1 funding illegally withheld between first and second final stmts on totally spurious grounds. Stmt gave absolute minimum number hours and insufficient professional support which was unspecified therefore illegal. Appealled stmt at tribunal Oct 2010 decision awaited. Stmt not implemented properly between March and Oct 2010 whilst appeal ongoing. So even tho we got stmt it has yet to be fully implemented and is totally inadequate.

I think it was two months, it was a long time ago!
I don't remember any delay, we were very lucky.

asdx2 · 09/10/2010 17:56

Got ds and dd's within six months of first request. Both in place before they started nursery at 3.

negligentmummy · 10/10/2010 20:39

pre-school applied in May 2010, proposed statement arrived September 2010- what I want to know is when it all starts!!

jiggles01 · 10/10/2010 22:32

SA refused March 2003 - when in language unit.
Reapplied in Feb 2005, Statement for 10 hrs accepted- May 2005.
Reapplied for 15 hrs in May 2006-denied.
Appealed to panel,request accepted.
Reapplied for 20 hrs in July 2007- accepted.
Applied for S/School(Yr 6)in Oct 2009-denied.
Appealed to SEND with tribunal date of July 2010
LEA caved in before and agreed to our request.
If he had the help in the very beginning,I am 100% sure he would be in M/S and coping very well.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 10/10/2010 22:38

Applied in January, finalised statement appeared in late October of that year (after they lost the paperwork and two appeals to Panel gits).

LEA in question only agreed to it five days before the LEA and me were going to fight it out at SENDIST (they knew they were going to lose so caved in!:)).

Even to this day I still have a slight sense of unease when I recall this whole experience.

TheCrunchyside · 10/10/2010 23:02

review meeting at nursery in March where they agreed to apply for SA

got draft statement in August - which we challenged

revised draft in late September which we have agreed to.

Waiting for them to issue final statement any day now

LucindaCarlisle · 11/10/2010 08:27

The school had not even referred DD to the SENCO.
It was only when we complained to the Local Authority about an incident when a teacher was cruel to DD that the Deputy Director of Education reviewed the situation and he fast-tracked DD to getting a Statement.

sugarcandymonster · 11/10/2010 10:30

11 months for a first final statement, then another 7 months for tribunal. So 18 months in total for a good statement naming the school we wanted. From dx to starting special school was 22 months.

Dec 2008 - Verbal dx of AS
Jan 2009 - Written dx
Feb 2009 - Made parental request for SA
SA refused, threatened tribunal, LA backed down
Jan 2010 - Received first final statement of 26 hours
July 2010 - Went to tribunal to amend parts 2, 3 & 4
August 2010 - Received amended final statement
September 2010 - DS started at independent specialist AS school.
