After a lot of problems DS (7) who has a diagnosis of ASD, ADHD amongst other things, has been put on Equasym by CAMHS. This drug is like ritalin apparently. He started it this lunchtime, had another dose at teatime but after this second dose he got tummy ache and nausea, and eventually vomited. He did find it quite distressing. He is normally bouncing off the walls whilst late at night, but he took himself to bed at 7.30pm but wasnt well. I have read the instructions with the drug and it says common side effects are stomach ache and nausea.

I would like to hear from someone whose child has taken this drug. How long will this go on for? At what point do you go back to CAMHS? Did you keep him off school with the stomachache and sickness?

I found ds2 had this for a few days then it went. It is most likely down to the medication, I would send him in to school and let them send him home if needed as you may find he will be fine. We go back every 6 month but ds has not had any more nausea after a few days.
The effects take a while to get used to for us as well, you will find yourself expecting him to bounce off the wall but it wont happen, I found the effect of the medication amazing for a while.
Hope he feels better soon.
