I have just received a proposed amended statement for ds (year6) and have 10 days to respond. Ds sn school do not have statement reviews as such - just parents evenings, so this is the first time I have seen any of the documents. Ds has ASD ADHD and LD and is working on the P scales ( 5-7) in an MLD. He is due for transfer to an MLD secondary next year. His present school is very ASD orientated - the secondarys are not.
Autism is only mentioned in part 5 additional noneducational needs. To me that misses the point. LD are not mentioned at all. SPD is not mentioned Communication is ruled off.
Part 2 list his needs as attention, concentration, and independence in class,
Literacy and numeracy, behaviour, social interactions, Fine motor skills. Part 3 reflects this with wishy washy provisions
Right first of all they have said he is fully able to acces the corriculum with his level of communication. The Salt has said his speech is clear and that although he scored low on the TRog test she felt he was able to function at the age 8 level if he could concentrate. So they have said he has no communication needs. He got 2 terms of weekly salt and came on no end. his speech is clearer than it was but strangers cannot understand him. I am glad he has speech but it seems premature to say all is well!
What about the autism and sensory difficulties. I know a lot of his behavioural problems are sensory in nature. What have others done? - it is not even listen under sensory ( his poor fione motor skills are mentioned because he cannot form letters yet) Should this go in part 2 and if possible 3?
Help!! TIA
