how did your camping trip go?
Give us the lowdown.
I'd like to know where you went and what you did.

Hello MD

It was a bit up and down tbh

Ups: amazing location, we really loved the area. Stayed at Beddgelert site, so went there (lovely ice cream and pizza (ta for that), Snowdon, the cinema you suggested at the art centre on a rainy day to see toy story, caernarvon Castle. Went over tho teh coast but it was too wet to do anything but a reccy, though we have said would go back.

Downs were the weather (though we were kited out, our new Vango leaked like buggery though so we got a refund and now have a Bell Tent). Also there was a very scary moment- the rain was such that the little river through Beddgelert had kayaks on it, had gone from sleepy to white water. We camped right by the toilets so the boys could use the mens even if DH was off but we didn;t relaise there was a fire door, the boys went in, ten minutes later as we wwere starting to go look they wandered over soaked.... they had got out through a fire door, DS3 had been washed down the river but fortuantely lanaded on a rock, where ds1 also in the river had found him.......scary realiswatiuon we could have been 2 boys down so easily and becuase of the ASD not one thought to ask the many adults camped yards away from the river, or even yell.

My own fault as well for trying to not use the disability facilltiies.

So- we won;t go back to that site but we spotted one without a river further along the Llanvberis road, also by a train station as weant to do the 3 day pass next time, and we will go back.

Thanks ever so for the suggestions- they made a real difference and we passed them on to our CM who went up week after.

I fell in love with Powys on the way up as well LOL but DH has ruled it too rural. I think I may have hermit inclinations Wink

Blimey, that sounds terrfying!
Those rivers fill up bloody fast.

I'm glad you enjoyed the other stuff. I was in the vicinity and thoguht of you.Was laughing to myself at thought of driving in, winding down window and roaring 'Sancti!! It's Moondog. Get yer arse over here now!!')

I know the other campsite you speak of (I was over the road last week, at a sheepdog trials) and it is thoguht very highly of. i think it is a bit bleak though. For somewhere with more nooks and crannies and trees, and a very very gentle river and a fab attached restaurant, you can't beat Riverside camping just outside of Caernarfon.

I'll look at that site thanks.

I'm not too worried about bleak- we're not a sit about sort of family, we get up, eat and go when we are away; don;t think we've ever spent a day actually on site (we're always like that: our car died last week and whilst awaiting the replacement tomorrow we've all developed cabin fever!).

I did cast sideways glances at a few likely looking candidates up in Beddgelert LOL, wondering if it were you LOL

OMGShock santi how scary for you and your boys. They were sooo lucky.
No sense of danger has a lot to answer for. I was going to go to that site next summer but think I will find one away from the river.

SanctiMoanyArse · 14/09/2010 18:08

I would suggest you did Ineed2
it's nice site for adult / older groups I think (though kidgy, as in the forest) but the area is littered wit sites
