I'm not at all sure if this is the right place, but please dont flame me if not.
DD is 4yo (July) and since birth and has always been quite excitable. She doesnt have any developmental delays and has good social skills. Problem is she is hyper. I mean really hyper to the point where she is impossible to take anywhere that she has to sit still or be quiet. she runs round shouting loudly or screaming, I cant take my eyes off her for a second when out and about or she just does a bunk. when at home, she is constantly either bouncing on the sofa, running up and down stairs, or, if she is playing in her room, all I can hear are thuds and crashes as she roots through her things to find what she wants to play with.
She has started school this week part time, and today the teacher has admitted that she hasnt been able to do anything with her this afternoon as she wont listen to instructions when she is too excited.
I just dont know if this is a normal (but lively) four year old, or she has a problem of some sort. She is quite a bright child and has an excellent vocab and is able to grasp quite adult concepts well, but is unable to write her name or recognise more than one or two letters (I have been working with her for about 6 months on this with no success, when I ask her about a letter she will just guess, or make a silly noise and start running around again)
DS who is almost 2 years older was able to write his name and recognise all the letters by her age.
I'm not so worried about the letters thing as I know she is still young and probably just not ready for that yet, but I'm worried that when she 'goes off on one' she is a danger to herself and others as she runs around with no thought to where she is or who is around her despite my physically restraining her, making eye contact, and asking her to calm down and stop running around etc, as soon as I let her go she starts off again.
