I linked to this in 'vaccinations'. Really pleased for her -it's a crap payout but at least it's been recognised. She's the founder of JABS and has had to put up with a lot of abuse over the years.

Maybe I am not looking hard enough or reading enough on the subject, but in the article I read, it didn't explain exactly how she proved the link between the jab and the damage to her son?
And true, £90,000 is a drop in the ocean compared with that family's last 18 years...

Apparently (according to the Times) it was the temporal association between the jab and seizures starting. I think they said 10 days - and that with that short time period there was in the balance if probability a link. Which is interesting as I think the children I know with MMR followed by seizures had an even shorter gap.

Its right the measles part of the vaccine kicks in around 10 days. Its then some kids get little rashes and temps, so definitely a link imo. Its well recognised a tiny number of children will be vaccine damaged. Not just MMR but any vaccine can cause encephalitis (swelling and inflammation of the brain) resulting in the damage seen in this boy. Hence the compensation scheme. Thousands more children would be damaged similaraly by the illness, but this is no consolation for the unlucky families.

Unfortunately the compensation scheme doesn't really seem to work that well.

In the States vaccine compensation was paid by vaccine manufacturers (not sure whether it still is) by way of a levy per shot given. The more dangerous the shot the more the companies paid into the fund. So they paid more per MMR shot than DT for example (and more for DTP than DT).

If 'everyone knows' that vaccines can damage then it's shocking that these things take nearly 2 decades for payment. What I find happens is that everyone knows theoretically - when it actually happens mother (always the mother) is accused of being in denial or imagining things.

Really any potential vaccine injury is meant to be investigated. They rarely are.

I'm shocked at how low it is!
