PersonalClown and to twin sisters lol

I could start a thread that allowing your child to be in a wheelchair will just make them lazy

AIBU to wonder what parents of children with Downs Syndrome did before Dr Downs identified the condition ? My gran is quite definite that there were none of 'them' in her class at school. People nowadays believe in Downs Syndrome, Autism, CP and all the rest of it because of the media and the benefits system ! How does that compare ?

bigcar · 23/08/2010 19:39

willow, when your gran was young there wouldn't have been any sn children in her school. Depending on her age anyone with sn would either have gone to a sn school, integration didn't happen, or they would have been shipped off to the nearest institution at the first hint that something "wasn't quite right".

Dd3s genetic syndrome doesn't have a conclusive test, guess that's all in our imagination too Hmm

anonandlikeit · 23/08/2010 19:49

its definatly getting worse, people honestly ebieve its OK at the moment to have a go because of the media reporting about the level of benefit fraud & the new gov saying they are going to have more stringent examinations for DLA.

So you know if the DM & Dave say everyone is a fraud then its got to be true.

But its OK when we take our kids swimming we can just get them changed in the disabled loo cos thats OK, don't worry about it stinking of piss & shit... if they are really disabled they won't care!... 123 & breath..2,3...

bigcar · 23/08/2010 19:53

I don't think those programmes they have on tv from time to time about dla fraudsters help either. There was a case on the news, was it last week(?), a man claiming dla but doing some quite vigorous dancing at a wedding. All of a sudden it's headline news Hmm

I know riven, so many people talking utter bollocks.

SummerRain · 23/08/2010 20:03

bigcar and willow... don't forget that without modern medical intervention vast amount of those babies born with SN would have died at birth or in infancy.

My uncle was born with SB and was being left to die (1958) until a nun working in the hospital raised hell and insisted he be operated on to save his life... it wasn't routine back then to do so Sad

willowthecat · 23/08/2010 20:31

bigcar - My gran knows there could not have been institutions such as you describe - it was a loving and happy time with all family members cross stitching around the fire side. All those big places that people got jobs in never existed - so that's that really.

bullet234 · 23/08/2010 21:52

You forgot the piano singing Willow.

Marne · 24/08/2010 13:37

I don't think it will happen as people can see the disability with a child/adult with CP (The same with down syndrom). I think people question AS/ASD/ADHD/ODD because they can not see the disability and are more behavioural/social disabilities (which some people think are due to bad parenting).
