I watched this on DVD last night - and although the autistic character is older and very different from my DS, I still think it is the best film I have ever seen about autism and the impact it has on the family. It is all done by showing and not telling - there are no lectures about autism, it is just a slice of their life.

Thanks - sounds good. Anyone else know any good movies / books?

I watched this on Youtube - it's been uploaded in sections - 's the first part. It's definitely worth watching. The character is very different from my DS as well but it was interesting to see behaviours that I've read about on here.

Snowcake was good and one that has 2 different names for different countries - The miracle? Then there is Adam. Autism the musical USA version was alright too.

I clicked on the link to Black Balloon late last night and watched it all the way through. It was very good wasn't it? But today I am very tired!

I watched Snow Cake last night, I really enjoyed it but my husband was distraught at the thought that our dd might be like the character when she's older. I liked her :) We had a long talk about our fears for dd and about the characters in the movie.

Will watch Black Balloon today on youtube. Have 'Adam' on my lovefilm list to come next, loved the trailer for that movie, especially the line where they ask if he wants to see the baby album/video etc and he says 'no thank you' when clearly the only correct 'social' answer would have been 'oooh yes of course'. LOL! I love Adam already :)

I love the black balloon - it's very like our life.

Can't wait for a mother's courage aka the sunshine boy. Narrated by Kate winslett. Sorry can't link - on iPod but looks fabulous. It has 'real' people with autism in as well rather than just actors.
