DLA - Claiming for mobility

My son is now 3 years old and I recently sent off the forms to claim for the mobility component (have been getting the care component since ds was 9 months old) and have just received a letter saying that they are dealing with my claim.
It then goes on to say that it can take up to 11 weeks for a decision to be made

I'm sure ds is eligible because he can't walk or even stand without support. Does anyone know whether it will be backdated, especially as I had to ring up and ask for the forms myself after being told that they would be sent out automatically before his 3rd birthday?

Thanks

I think mine was back dated, pretyy sure it will be, they are quite good at that sort of thing. Once you find out through some obscure source it exists, and you manage to get a form and then fill it in and get a response, after all that, they seem to sort you out okay.

PS my DD, 4 at Xmas, can't walk or stand unaided either, just wanted to let you know we share that and I know, i know, TC x

It's usually backdated to when you first asked for the forms. If you were late sending them back then they backdate it to when they receive your completed forms.

I'm still waiting to hear about ds2's DLA care component. I phoned the helpline last week to see what was happening and the woman was shocked that it was taking so long for a decision to be made. I've now been waiting for just over 10 weeks.

Hi yes, my little one's mobility payments were backdated from when I requested the form, it did take them a while to sort it out, but was nice to get a lump payment !!

My daughters forms weren't sent out automatically either, I had to request them.

we got sent the forma automatically about 4 months before she was 3, so it was sorted by her 3rd Birthday

DD got backed dated by 16 weeks as they messed it up.

I waited for months as I asked them to "look again" but it was backdated
