Ados -how long a wait???

DS has seen community paed who could not give dx. History appeared to indicate AS or high functioning ASD but when she met him said he presented differently to what she expected to see. Told we would need Ados test with appointment in 16-18 weeks. I have regularly chased for updates and we are now in week 17. Called today and was told that due to staff holidays now looking at end September. SA is due to start so I stressed that we needed appointment asap. The main person who dealt with the bookings was not there so will chase again tomorrow. Anyone know what the average waiting time is for this? (am in Essex). TIA

crikey, we were told 12-18 months for ADOS, we have just had about 2 weeks ago and received the results via a meeting yesterday. Perhaps it is different for different areas.

It can be up to 2 years here, though we were an 'emergency' case and so were seen in 5 months. I would say your waiting list is quite good but can see why it's frustrating. Would say that SA shouldn't be dependent on results though - J wasn't dx'd with anything when Statemented and was subsequently dx'd with ADHD and autism which didn't massively affect his statement. Statement should be off needs not dx (though I know it's not always the case). SA takes ages anyway so the ADOS at the end of Sept should be still in time to be fed into the Statement.

Agree with givemevodka, Alfie was statemented long time before ADOS. He has now been dx with ASD, not sure how this will now affect his statement as this was done on suspected asd.

From pre-assessment interview was told 4 months wait for ados, waited 4 and half actually, so not bad.
But as others have said it can varie a lot from area to area.

Thanks all - guess I should be grateful compared to some of the wait's you've had! Just get fed up with professionals fobbing off - know I should be used to it by now.

Guess my daughter was one of the lucky ones, we went for the pre assessment interview on 2nd August and waited only 4 weeks.. She had her ADOS Assessment today :)

She is 16 and we have pushed for this for so long.. just have to wait for the results now..
