my 13 yr old DD had a follow up meeting with consultant paeds today, who has confirmed processing disorder and dyspraxia, with further investigation for aspergers. He is urgently referring her to ed psych, camhs and suggested salt - although he did comment that as she doesnt have a physical speech problem - but rather the processing of information means her speach is really slow and repititve, he is not too sure what salt would be able to doSad

Is there anything that can help, as this is the issue that upsets DD the most?Sad

when I've spoken to a SALT who works with teens, she seemed to talk in terms of teaching coping techniques, working around the difficult areas. possibly some sort of visual references might help your DD - if she has a diary/written list to refer to? SALT should also have access to loads of worksheets of exercises etc that you can do at home with her (if of course she is cooperative) to work on social skills, reasoning/inferencing etc.

a couple of websites that are useful:-

winslow catalogue - you can get an idea from the books and resources what sort of SALT stuff is out there, so even if it's too expensive it will give you ideas

superduperinc - it's got loads of useful free information handouts, you have to register to download them but it's all free.
